US business activity improves in May; inflation poised to accelerate sharply

Data released on May 22 by the Institute for Supply Management showed U.S. manufacturing activity expanding for the first time in six months, while services activity also picked up unexpectedly. However, supplier delivery times slowed and input costs rose, suggesting that inflation could heat up further in the coming months, complicating the Federal Reserve’s interest rate outlook.
