A dozen U.S. states decry Trump’s “blank check” tariffs in lawsuit

On May 21, twelve Republican-led states filed a federal lawsuit seeking to block President Trump’s broad tariff authority, arguing his imposition of “Liberation Day” tariffs without congressional approval exceeded executive powers. The states claim the tariffs threaten manufacturing and agri-business jobs and infringe upon constitutional trade prerogatives.
