Weak Mexican growth and rising May inflation sound alarms for economy

Data on May 22 revealed Mexico’s GDP grew just 0.2% in Q1, while annual inflation rose above the central bank’s 4% target for the first time this year, driven by higher fuel and food costs. Economists warn that tepid growth combined with stubborn inflation could limit the central bank’s ability to cut interest rates and dampen consumer spending.
